Internal Medicine Residency News - March 9th, 2026
Fam,
Best night to work nights is behind us, now it gets to be sunny at the end of the day. On the bright side, spring weather. Also beware of “the pollening” (see: Durham pollen tree video) that is just around the corner. Great weekend for Duke to destroy UNC in basketball as we get ready for March Madness AND for the Duke women to have back to back ACC tourney championships.
In the meantime, take a few minutes complete your ACGME survey!
Please see the emails from both Victor Ayeni and Ian George about volunteer opportunities!
If you haven’t had a spring advisor meeting, now is the time! Please check in if your advisor hasn’t reached out about scheduling a meeting.
Prelim interns, my apologies - we will get these on the books :)
Kudos this week to Abbey Driscoll for an outstanding SAR talk, to Jimshad Farooque-Wooden from Dr. Hankollari for making a lifesaving diagnosis on a patient overnight, and to Alyssa Morrison, Femi Olatidoye, and Pankti Sheth from Dr. Schneider for outstanding patient care and teamwork at the VA as well as to Alia Sadek from Dr. Schneider for great work on a “disappearing” H and P!
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Lexi Green for her recent presentation!
Green AL, Hess DL, Chen K, Wolf S, Nichols H, Patel S, O’Brien J, Oswalt C, Stinchcombe TE, Clarke JM, Alder L. SCLC Outcomes and Real-World Insight with Tarlatamab: A Multi-Center Experience. Poster presented at: Targeted Therapies of Lung Cancer Conference, February 20, 2026; Huntington Beach, CA.

Finally, for those who can’t make it to these events but want to help out, the group we’re highlighting for donations this month is Project Access Durham County! This group (which actually has an office right next to the DOC) works closely with organizations like Lincoln Health Center to give patients the medical equipment and transportation they need to optimize their health, resources that unfortunately are very hard for many of our patients to access. A donation to them is a direct donation to your most vulnerable patients!
If you have any ideas at all about community volunteering events, or about happenings in Durham that could help others get to know the community better, please reach out to get it added to the next email. And, if you're interested in helping lead this work next year, please let me know!
Yours in neighbor-ing,
Victor
