From the Director

Happy May 1st! Vacation was amazing, excited to show anyone who asks some pics from our hiking adventures.

The last two months of the year are super busy ones, so please pay attention to all the emails from us and from the GME office about any and all end of year/beginning of the year paperwork. The “to do” list varies by class, but please keep an eye out for emails about all things end of year/beginning of year.

Graduating SARs and prelim interns – Tyesha will be sending a sign up and instructions for end of year meetings with me!  Rising JARs – you will meet with Dr Hargett for your end of year meeting so please also look for a signup from Tyesha.  For Rising SARs, we will be meeting more about your fellowship and job plans, so please also make sure to meet with your advisor for your spring meeting – you have enough on your plate that we are not scheduling a separate meeting with Dr Hargett or me, but will have you cover end of year/beginning of year feedback with your advisor.  If you have already met this spring, GREAT!

Graduating SARs – please send any credentialing forms for your new fellowship or job to Tyesha we can make sure they are signed and taken care of.

This week is the RISING SAR retreat. Looking forward to working with you on SAR goals, interview prep and more!

Kudos

Kudos this week to Mae Hamilton from Megan Barrett for management of a very sick patient, to Shane Clark for being an awesome teammate and to Matt Goodwin for being a great SAR (from Auston Steifer), to Londyn Robinson from Sarah Morgan for next level patient/family communication, and to our SAR-talkers while I was away – Sarah Moserowitz, Brandon Durant and Jawan Abdulrahim.  I’m sure I missed some great kudos while I was out so sorry if I missed you!   Thanks to Pulm CC Division for sponsoring a Thirsty Thursday!

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. Prioritized GME appts are now available also at 6 pm and 7 pm! For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
