Internal Medicine Residency News - May 11th, 2026
Thanks to all who helped run a great Rising SAR Professional Development half day and to the current SARs who covered for them - much appreciated by all. We had our first "How to Be a JAR" session as well on Friday … the year is really flying by with end of residency/end of intern year meetings with Dr. Hargett and me as well as getting those fellowship applications ready for submission.
Congratulations to Sam McCachren on his wedding this weekend!
Other kudos this week to Noah Hellermann for his excellent SAR talk, to amazing APD Dr. Garbarino on a fantastic Grand Rounds, to Nicole Zatorski from Chris Gitter for fixing the parking garage (!!!), to Maison Furley for outstanding work on NF from former chief and current nephrology fellow Komal Safdar, and to Tilly Henry and Frank Estrella (along with almost chief Amber Fleck) for wonderful work on a busy MICU night (also from Komal), and to Roberto Rosario from Chief Lauren for having the most entertaining distribution emails of the year!
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Madeline Watson for her upcoming presentation at the American Thoracic Society Meeting: "VV-ECMO Stress Ulcer Prophylaxis”
Have a great week!

Hey everyone,
First, I want to give a HUGE shoutout to Victor for all the work he’s done with Resiteering over the past couple of years! He’s passing me the baton, and I hope to keep this initiative going strong-- AND will have a couple of interns join me shortly because we can’t all do 5 million things at once like Victor 😉
Second shoutout to everyone who came out to the events last month!! Check out these fun pics from the colorectal screening campaign and the Habitat for Humanity builds!!

For those who can’t make it to these events but want to help out, the group we’re highlighting for donations this month is…Fresh Start Durham! This is an initiative to give neighbors in Durham the dignity of a free shower, clean clothes, and a haircut. Even a small donation helps people obtain these things that we take for granted but that can be such meaningful ways to acknowledge someone's humanity. Donate HERE!
And if you have any initiatives you want us to volunteer with or donate to, please let me know!! We are always looking for new ways to connect with the Durham community.
Ok phew, I think that’s all, folks! Hope to see yall at one of these events!!
