Internal Medicine Residency News - May 19th, 2025
What a week! Big thanks to all who helped cover our JARs for the rising SAR retreat and post retreat hang out. Thanks also to the awesome APD team of Drs. Van Kirk, Hargett, Garbarino and Labriola and our amazing chiefs for great sessions on interviewing, teaching and leadership.
Great victory by the residents over the faculty in Cameron! Special thanks to Dr. G for getting us into the best place to be for basketball in the country. If you haven’t read the recap by Best Uchehara, definitely do so!
Loved seeing everyone and their families at the Chief Picnic on Saturday. Gorgeous day and tons of fun!
Kudos this week to Hiwot Abate and Eric Wilson for superb SAR talks, to Andres Camino for being proactive with patient follow up and Mark Hieromnimon for awesome teaching (from Dr Pinion), and from Dr. McShane in the VA ED, a special kudos to all of you – he noted that over the past 5 years he has been in the VA ED, he has consistently been impressed with the clinical skills and professionalism of the Duke IM residents. What a great email to receive!
We are looking forward to resident research day at Grand Rounds this week. Cannot wait to see you all shine in your presentations and posters. Please show up and support your colleagues!
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Lorena Millo for her article that will be published in Clinics in Liver Disease with mentor Dr. Kappus: “The Liver in Heart Failure and Adults with Congenital Heart Disease.”
Have a great week!
