From the Director

May is FLYING by!  Congratulations to the amazing Duke IM residents on their resounding victory over the awesome faculty in the annual Fac vs Res BBall game! Dynasty vibes for this team, 3-0 for the season.  Much fun had by all as well. Many thanks to Coaches Lonnie and Labs for putting this together.  We are grateful not to have supported the orthopedics department as well.

This week (today) is the DukeFam picture.  Other happenings include paying attention to the sign up for interview practice with Dr. Kath Pollak for rising SARs/those applying for fellowships or jobs.  Excited to offer this amazing opportunity again, courtesy of our Alumni Council and Dr. Pollak.  For those who missed her intro conference on Friday, our fantastic ACR Harsh is uploading to the conference site.

Congratulations to Courtney Dominguez on her recent engagement!

Kudos

Kudos this week to all who presented posters at Resident Research Day! You will see our Califf Award winners in the Pubmed from the Program, and poster award winners will be announced at Grand Rounds coming up.  Many thanks to Drs. Ortel, Muir, St. Clair and Colon-Emeric for serving as poster judges and to Drs. Cooney and Wilson for being our discussants.  And huge thanks to Dr. Nia Mitchell for her leadership in making this happen and to Bridget Copen for being the organizational force!

More kudos this week to Shelief Robbins-Juarez from Katie Smith for amazing coordination of care for a very sick patient on NF as well as to Apurva Khedagi and Shivy Chandramouli for being a fantastic NF crew, to Liz Kobe from Matt Labs for breaking his ankles at the game, and to Chris Wanjiku for an awesome SAR talk.

Pubmed from the Director

This week’s pubmed from the program goes to our Grand Rounds presenters/Califf Award winners Drs. Nicole Dussault, Sriya Muralidharan and Allison Taylor for their FACULTY LEVEL work and poise presenting to the Department of Medicine!

Have a great week

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. Prioritized GME appts are now available also at 6 pm and 7 pm! For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
