WHAT A GREAT WEEKEND! The Stead Tread was amazing as usual. Enormous kudos to our leadership team of Dr. Caroline Sloan, Victor Ayeni, Fiona Splaine, David Stevens, and Katelyn Rennyson as well as team members Christopher Gitter, Hannah Schwennesen, Oyin Adedipe, Ian George, Ryan Cooper, Madhura Pande, Michael Terranova, Alia Sadek, Amani Allen, Trevor Sytsma, and Averie Dickinson. Huge kudos to all who showed up and ran, walked, scootered, cheered and supported one of the best organizations in Durham - the Lincoln Community Health Center!
Another fun night of Stepping in 4 Respect with the JARs, led by Drs Sloan and Trinh, with mentorship from Leadership SAR Oyin Adidepe! One more group to go on Sept 30!

We have a lot of fun things happening in the next few weeks! Thirsty Thursday with GI on Sept 25th and then the start of DOCTOBERFEST! The calendar of events will be sent out this week - Trivia! Treats to the clinics! Monday Funday! Family Day at the park and the Flannels & S’mores Backyard Party! Plus trick or treat candy rounds. This all leads up to our residency recruitment kickoff - we can't wait to have our future Duke residents meet you all.

All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. Prioritized GME appts are now available also at 6 pm and 7 pm! For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Thanks so much to people who have helped out this month, especially with City of Medicine volunteering and all who participated in the Stead Tread 5K this past weekend! We had a GREAT turnout!

🏫👨🎓City of Medicine: Saturday College Prep "Lock-Ins" 📝👨⚕️

Details: We will be helping our local high school partner, City of Medicine Academy (CMA), with college application prep this fall through three "lock-ins" where students can hunker down with guidance counselors, teachers, and other volunteers who have been through the college application process to get help. Whether students are procrastinating, confused about the application process, or just needing a pep talk about the kinds of schools they can get into but don't realize it, we hope this collaboration can be helpful in their steps to great life careers (especially in healthcare). Anybody who has ever been to college (i.e. All of you) is qualified and invited to help!
