The Department of Medicine hosted an all faculty reception on Sept. 19 to welcome new faculty and kick off a new Career Development Seminar Series.
At the reception, faculty heard from leadership, had opportunities to chat in small groups, and celebrated the Department.
"Events like this are really rejuvenating and help us understand all of the incredible people who are here at Duke," said Aimee Zaas, MD, MHS, associate professor of medicine (Infectious Diseases).
The Career Development Seminar Series, led by Cary Ward, MD, is an opportunity for all faculty to learn about popular topics in leadership skills development as well as negotiation, mentoring, and the finances of academic medical centers. The first seminar will be held on Thur., Oct. 17, when Joanna Downer, PhD, associate dean for Research Development, will present "Teamwork in Research: Strategies for Success." Register for the series.

"The all faculty reception was a fantastic opportunity to meet people in the Department, not just new faculty but more senior faculty in the Department. I have already made connections with folks I had never met before, who are in different divisions, but who are either interested in what I do or who I am very interested in what they do," said Samira Musah, PhD, assistant professor of medicine (Nephrology) and biomedical engineering, who joined the Department over the summer.
