Mark A. Herman, MD, is one of three faculty from the School of Medicine who has been elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI).
Dr. Herman is an associate professor of medicine (Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Nutrition) and a member of the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute. He uses a multidisciplinary, systems approach to understand molecular mechanisms underlying the metabolic syndrome - a constellation of pathologies including obesity; insulin resistance; impaired glucose metabolism; non-alcoholic fatty liver disease; and dyslipidemia, which can lead to the development of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
