From the Director

Aimee

Congrats to the SARs…while it’s not quite the end yet, we had a wonderful time at the SAR-lebration on Friday!  Many thanks to Kayla and Bridget for their hard work getting things ready and of course to our emcees JR Peacock and Sean Taasan as well as our (a-hem) roasters-in-chief Mary Jo Obeid and Mike Cosiano.  Special thanks as well to JT Tanaka and Carter Devlin who covered for the SARs so they could attend!

SAR

CHIEF GRAND ROUNDS ON FRIDAY, 8AM!!!!  BE there to support and cheer on Jess and Dennis!!

Things to remember as the year winds down…

-SARs, please make sure all view alerts/in basket messages are taken care of, all modules are completed, etc as you get ready for check out.  It has been great to meet 1:1 with everyone I have met with so far and look forward to meeting with the rest of you all!

-Interns and JARs – please don’t forget to renew your NC training license as early as possible (like when you get the 45 day notice).  There are new state policies about Medicare prescribing that take awhile to wind through and if you delay renewing your license, it can be a boatload of extra work for you to renew the Medicare prescribing.

            - Be on the lookout for SHADOW DAY emails! We are working on the pairings and will send ASAP

Kudos

Kudos this week to Emory Buck from Dr Deng Madut for writing an outstanding H and P on a patient he was consulting on, to Hannah Schwennesen for getting a gold star from a patient, to Kristen Corey from Dr. Liz Hankollari for doing an amazing job admitting a complex patient (kudos from the patient as well), to Rabab Ali for a phenomenal SAR talk, and to Andrew Maul, Nandita Singh, Daniel Travis and Nijat Aliyev from Chief Labs for being amazing 9100 interns!

Congratulations to Pooja Patel on her wedding!  Also belated congratulations to Ryan Keane, Ceshae Harding and Katie Jordan on each of their engagements!

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
