MGR 4/16/21: Vineet Arora, MD, MAPP to give Clipp-Speer Women in Medicine Lecture

The Program for Women in Internal Medicine (PWIM) will host Vineet Arora, MD, MAPP, for the annual Clipp-Speer Women in Medicine Visiting Professor Medicine Grand Rounds presentation on Fri., April 16, at 12 p.m. over Zoom.

Dr. Arora will present "Sustaining and Salvaging Innovation in a Pandemic World:  From IGNITE to IMPACT."

Dr. Vineet Arora is the Herbert T. Abelson Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago Medicine. As Associate Chief Medical Officer for the Clinical Learning Environment, she bridges education and clinical leadership to engage trainees and staff into the institutional quality, safety, and value mission. She is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine whose work improving care and learning in teaching hospitals has been funded by NIH, AHRQ and the Macy Foundation, and has been cited over 10,000 times. 

She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Internal Medicine. As the Director of Educational Initiatives at Costs of Care, she co-chaired the Teaching Value Choosing Wisely Challenge and co-authored Understanding Value-Based Healthcare, from McGraw Hill. For her work, she has received the American College of Physicians Walter J. McDonald Young Physician Award, the Society of Hospital Medicine’s Excellence in Hospital Medicine Research Award, and the Society of General Internal Medicine’s Fred Brancati Leadership and Mentorship Award. In 2011, she was named to “20 People Who Make American Healthcare Better” by HealthLeaders Magazine. 

Dr. Arora earned her medical degree at the Washington University in St. Louis and completed her residency, chief residency, and Masters in Public Policy at the University of Chicago. Dr. Arora regularly tweets about medical education, technology, and health policy at @futuredocs.

The Clipp-Speer Women in Medicine Visiting Professorship, hosted by the Department of Medicine and PWIM (Program for Women in Internal Medicine), honors the memory and contributions of two faculty members who were trailblazers in the Duke Department of Medicine: Elizabeth "Jody" Clipp, PhD, RN, and Marcy Speer, PhD.
