General Internal Medicine announces the 6th annual Excellence Awards to honor the outstanding achievements of our division's faculty and staff members in clinical care, education, research, implementation, and professionalism.
GIM will solicit nominations for awards broadly. Nominations should consist of a primary letter of nomination outlining the candidate’s contributions, written by another faculty or staff member who is familiar with these contributions. Nominations will be reviewed by the GIM Awards Selections Committee who will present their choices to the Division Chief for final approval.
The award winners will be announced sometime by the Division Chief in the fall of 2021.

Submission Deadline: Monday, September 27, 2021.
Early Career Research Award:
This award recognizes early-career achievement (Assistant Professor/Medical Instructor) in research. Criteria are scientific merit, innovation, clinical/medical impact, and quality of the research environment.
Practice Excellence Award:
This award recognizes a GIM faculty member in a clinical setting, who has distinguished himself/herself and the profession by outstanding clinical performance.
Educational Excellence Award:
This award recognizes faculty members who have shown superior teaching, advising and scholarly and professional activity to learners, either medical students, residents, or fellows in research or clinical practice.
Clinical Mentoring Award:
This award recognizes excellence in clinical mentoring by a faculty member who demonstrates the qualities of a trusted advisor and an influential supporter as demonstrated by the accomplishments of individual mentees.
Research Mentoring Award:
This award recognizes excellence in research mentoring by a faculty member who demonstrates the qualities of a trusted advisor and an influential supporter as demonstrated by the accomplishments of individual mentees.
Quality Improvement Award:
This award recognizes a faculty member who leads quality improvement initiatives in General Internal Medicine that improve important aspects of clinical care at Duke or the VA. The award is intended to highlight outstanding team approaches to implementing interventions that improve both patient care and safety.
Staff Excellence Award:
Eligible candidates must have been with the division for at least 1 year. Nominations can be based on any of the following attributes: problem-solving, creativity, leadership, mentoring, teamwork, and overall positive attitude.
