Internal Medicine Residency News - December 8th, 2025
LET’S GO SARS!! We are so excited (still) about your incredible Fellowship Match Day results as well as hearing about all of the job acceptances for those pursuing hospital medicine and primary care!
Many thanks to all who worked this weekend for handling disruptions due to the Duke North flood. We will have some changes in availability of 2002 so keep an eye out for messages about moving conferences, etc.
Be on the lookout for the schedule request forms coming out next week, as well as documents that help explain some of the choices you will have next year as rising JARs and rising SARs. SARs, please make sure to look at the end of year document sent last week.
We are gearing up for our Annual Holiday gathering, complete with what promises to be a fantastic chief performance THIS FRIDAY! See you there. Resco gift exchange is on Friday at noon in the med res as well.
Kudos this week to Larissa Lushniak for a spectacular Cohen conference, to Theodore Moore for a wonderful SAR talk, to Max Sumner from the VA MICU for great work this week (sent in by Lauren Pinion), and to Gabby Pancio and Ian Malinow from Richard McLane for awesome work on a busy GM team. More kudos to our recruitment team My Take folks of Alia Sadek, Natalie Cohen, Zach Creech, Tommy Hamner, Kaushik Puranam, Reeti Gulati, Theodore Moore and Oyin Adidepe and our evening zoom crew of Sydney Means, Alia Sadek, Meredith Srour-Welser, Jess Irvin, Maria Paz, Bryce Hendren-Santiago, Lexi Green, Eric Bejarano, Zach Creech, Chris Norberg, and Tilly Henry! And to Victor Ayeni from Dr Nash (ED) for outstanding patient centered care in the ED!
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Abby Driscoll for her presentation at the Association of Medicine and Psychiatry conference on unusual withdrawal symptoms from kratom and kava!
Have a great week!

Finally, for those who can’t make it to these events but want to help out, the group we’re highlighting for donations this month is Habitat for Humanity! As the housing crisis rages on, very visibly in Durham, the Department of Medicine is hosting a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity to support home building and housing access. I'll reach out in December with the formal donation link when it's ready, so stay tuned for that! The residency is also hosting a home build with Habitat in April - details coming later in the year!
As always, these events are all ones suggested or led by fellow members of the IM residency. If you have any ideas at all about community volunteering events, or about happenings in Durham that could help others get to know the city better, please reach out to me to get it added to the next email. Given the coming holidays, the next email will be at the start of January!
Yours in neighbor-ing,
Victor
