On Wednesday, November 29, 2023, the Duke Department of Medicine (DOM) celebrated another successful fellowship match day.

The Duke Department of Medicine joined thousands across the country on Wednesday, November 29 for the 2023 Fellows Match Day. Duke Internal Medicine residents gathered in Duke North 2002 with excitement to learn where their educational journey would take them next as they continue to move medicine forward.

The Duke Department of Medicine (DOM) has long been at the forefront of advancing medical knowledge and fostering collaboration through its Continuing Medical Education (CME) efforts.

Congratulations to the following faculty members for their recent appointment or promotion in the Department of Medicine.

ALICE is an annual program that provides targeted development to mid-career women faculty leaders. Applications for the 2024 program are available now and are due November 3.

The Department of Medicine’s partnership with the Durham VA Health Care System, the work our faculty and staff do there to care for patients, and the biomedical research they conduct shed important light on health care issues relevant to veterans. This year’s annual Veterans Day Medicine Grand Rounds, The Veterans Experience, addresses some of these critical topics.

Dr. Lance Okeke, MD, MHS, has been selected by the HIV Medicine Association (HIVMA) as the 2023 HIVMA Innovative Leader Award recipient for his contributions to advancing the field through his productive research portfolio, and innovative and transformative delivery of care to people with HIV. 

Georgia Sofia Karachaliou, MD, MSc, a postdoctoral associate in the division of Gastroenterology, ‬has received the Early Career Investigator Award in Clinical/Translational Science in the 2023 American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) Foundation Abstract Awards.
