The Burroughs Wellcome Fund is accepting applications for its Collaborative Research Travel Grants (CRTG) for biomedical researchers. The grant provides up to $15,000 for domestic or international travel to visit labs at other institutions to learn new research techniques, or to begin or continue research collaboration. Applications are due on Feb. 1, 2017.

Bohórquez selected as 2017 TED Fellow
Diego Bohórquez, PhD, assistant professor of medicine (Gastroenterology), has been selected as a 2017 TED Fellow.
Funding opp: MEDx Biomedical Research Award
Don't forget: The MEDx Biomedical Research Award will provide funds of up to $50,000 for novel pilot projects that investigate a basic biomedical question or for the development of tools or technologies that enable biomedical discovery. The pilot projects must be collaborations between faculty members in the Pratt School of Engineering and the School of Medicine. Application submission deadline is Jan. 19, 2017.

Don't forget: The Chancellor’s Discovery Program is accepting applications. This unique program is intended to fuel new opportunities for innovative research projects at Duke Health that are focused on new ideas and discovery. The Discovery Program will fund up to five one-year awards of $75,000 in 2017. The deadline for applications is Jan. 20, 2017.

Q&A with Jamy Ard, MD, 2017 Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Speaker
Jamy Ard, MD, will return to Duke University on Jan. 13, 2017 as the Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Speaker at Medicine Grand Rounds. Dr. Ard is a professor of medicine and epidemiology and prevention at Wake Forest School of Medicine and co-director of the Weight Management Center at Wake Forest Baptist Health. He attended Duke University School of Medicine and completed residency in internal medicine at Duke, serving as chief resident from 2001-2002.
Dr. Ard will present "A patient with obesity walks into your clinic: Designing effective obesity treatments for key populations." Continue reading for more on his research and his time at Duke.
