The division of General Internal Medicine held their first annual Proud To Be GIM Celebration on Thursday, October 26, at the GIM offices in downtown Durham. This was our first in-person division-wide event held since the pandemic.

Congratulations to two of our faculty members who are receiving distinguished academic promotions in the division of General Internal Medicine (GIM)! Drs. Gallagher and Chudgar are the first-ever Duke hospital medicine faculty members to receive this promotion to full professor.

Dr. Huang joins us from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where he completed his Internal Medicine residency program. He now joins us as a Hospitalist at Duke Regional Hospital.

Joanna Cavalier, MD

Dr. Cavalier has been with Duke since she began her internal medicine residency in 2019. She now joins our division as a Medical Instructor and is a hospitalist at Duke University Hospital.

Health care providers play a crucial role in medical advocacy, and the Duke Department of Medicine is meeting a need for these physicians’ voices by expanding the scope of medical advocacy training to include fellows as well as residents.

Transformational Leader Quinn Capers, MD, to Deliver June 16 Greenfield Lecture

Academic medicine transformation leader Quinn Capers, IV, MD, the Rody P. Cox Professor of Internal Medicine (Cardiology) and associate dean for faculty diversity at the University of Texas Southwest School of Medicine, will deliver the June 16 Greenfield lecture with a talk entitled “Diversifying the Physician Workforce – Why We Can’t Wait.” 

The event will be held in person only beginning at 8 a.m. in Duke North, 2002. Breakfast will be served outside of the room starting at 7:45am.
