Dr. Pignone Named Inaugural Vice Chair for Quality and Innovation
Michael Pignone, MD, MPH, chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School, will join the Duke Department of Medicine as the inaugural vice chair for quality and innovation, and serve as faculty within the Division of General Internal Medicine effective November 1.
Moving Medicine Forward: Dr. Shariff Receives Community Cancer Centers Innovators Award
Afreen Shariff, MD, assistant professor in the division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Nutrition, has been selected by the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) as a 2023 Innovator Award recipient for her work on the effectiveness of electronic consults for immune-related endocrine toxicities.
Researchers Awarded $7.5 Million for Prevention of Bone Fracture Study
An interdisciplinary team of researchers from Duke, UNC, Harvard, Brown and the American Health Care Association Long-term Care Data Collaboratory have been awarded $7.5 million from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to fund a study on models of post-acute care in complex older adults with fractures. The study is one of the largest comparative effectiveness trials undertaken in skilled nursing facilities.
