Department of Medicine faculty receive 2020 DIHI Innovation Awards
The Duke Institute for Health Innovation (DIHI) has announced the recipients of the 2020 Innovation Awards, which support high-potential innovation projects in the areas of population health and analytics, novel patient interactions, new and team-based models of care, and optimization of patient flow. Eight of the 11 funded project teams include faculty from the Department of Medicine.
Morey receives VA's Paul B. Magnuson Award
Miriam Morey, PhD, professor of medicine (Geriatrics) has been awarded the Paul B. Magnuson Award, the VA Rehabilitation Research and Development Service's highest honor. It is given to recognize humanitarianism and dedication in service to Veterans.
Eichenberger receives Chair's Research Award for Trainee Projects
Emily Eichenberger, MD, a fellow in the Division of Infectious Diseases, has received the Chair's Research Award for Trainee Projects from the Department of Medicine.
Kara Wegermann receives the 2020 Mario Family Foundation Award
Kara Wegermann, MD, a fellow in Gastroenterology, will receive The Mario Family Foundation Award, which supports junior investigators in training to make the transition to become independent scientists and planning for their first extra-mural funding.
Hernandez named Vice Dean and the new Executive Director of the Duke Clinical Research Institute
Adrian Hernandez, MD, MHS, has been named Vice Dean and the new Executive Director of the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI), effective May 15.
James Clapp, emeritus professor of medicine, has died
James Robert Clapp, MD, professor emeritus of medicine (Nephrology), died May 2, 2020 at age 88. “Dr. Clapp was instrumental in building the Duke Division of Nephrology, and he was well-known for his dedication to caring for patients with advanced kidney disease and hypertension,” said Kathleen Cooney, MD, chair of the Department of Medicine. “He is fondly remembered by many colleagues and patients alike.”
