This spring, four faculty members in the Duke Department of Medicine have been awarded distinguished professorships.

The Duke Department of Medicine is proud to recognize faculty who exemplify exceptional dedication to patient care, innovation in clinical practice, and the training of future physicians.

The Duke Department of Medicine each year recognizes individuals who have made notable impacts that move medicine forward and have created sustained legacies that help share our institution. Meet the 2025 Career Achievement Awardees, Dr. Roger Liddle, Virginia Kraus and Stephen Smith.

The Kimberley J. Evans Legacy Award acknowledges and celebrates exemplary faculty members that have made substantive efforts to advance diversity among trainees or faculty, advocate for equal career development and opportunities for medicine residents, fellows and/or faculty, promote institutional culture change and community building, and/or foster an environment of inclusion and belonging in the department and beyond. 

The Education Achievement Award recognizes faculty who have shown exceptional dedication to the art and practice of teaching, are beloved by former students, trainees, and faculty members, and who have made a positive impact on individuals' learning and careers. 

Katherine Garman, MD, associate professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Neil L. Spector Art of Medicine Award.
