The study will look at the use of pharmacogenetic testing in clinical settings, which has not been widely implemented at this point, to identify driving factors of higher and lower utilization. 

We are pleased to announce that Kevin Shah, MD, MBA, has been promoted to Associate Professor of Medicine in the division of General Internal Medicine (GIM), effective September 1, 2022. Dr. Shah was also recently named interim Chief Medical Officer of Duke Primary Care, overseeing the continuum of work after John Anderson, MD, left this role in July.

In this role Ward will serve as the faculty lead for current and future School of Medicine (SoM) faculty development programs including Leadership Development for Researchers (LEADER); Academic Leadership, Innovation, and Collaborative Engagement (ALICE); and the Duke Clinical Leadership Program (DCLP).

The Duke Precision Medicine Program will bring proven precision medicine technologies from the basic science portfolio to the clinical setting through both research and clinical programs

Congratulations to three General Internal Medicine faculty who received promotions to Asissiatnt Professor effective August 1, 2022. 

At the beginning of his senior year in college as a computer science major, Sandeep Dave, MD, MS, wanted a career in artificial intelligence (AI). By the end of the year, after researching and writing about AI for his thesis, Dave decided to change course. “I came away very unhappy at what passed for artificial intelligence,” says Dave, a professor of Hematologic Malignancies and Cellular Therapy. “Computers playing chess is one thing, but being able to model language and reasoning—those things still remain out of reach for even the state-of-the-art technologies today. That made me think of human mechanisms, human physiology, and the wonder that underlies it.”
