GIM Assistant Professor of Medicine, Suchita Shah Sata, MD, SFHM, was selected for the Senior Fellows Class of 2021 by the Society for Hospital Medicine (SHM). Those who have achieved this designation have a proven track record of promoting excellence, innovation and improving the quality of patient care in hospital medicine.

​Rasheed Gbadegesin, MD, has been named associate dean for physician-scientist development and director of the Office of Physician-Scientist Development (OPSD) in the Duke University School of Medicine.

Kathleen Cooney, MD, MACP, chair of the department, Aimee Zaas, MD, MHS, program director of the Duke Internal Medicine Residency Program, and David Simel, MD, vice chair for Veterans Affairs, have announced the Chief Residents for the 2022-2023 academic year.

A Durham-based COVID-19 vaccination event on Saturday was focused on helping at-risk residents who live in underserved communities. 

The Feb. 9, 2021 session of Duke Medicine LEADS featured a discussion led by John Duronville, MD, and Dinushika Mohottige, MD, MPH, "Case Dissection: Confronting Structural Racism and Implicit Bias."

Panelist included, Manesh Patel, MD; George Yankey, MD; Andy Mumm, MD; Yolanda Guzman, MD; and Jon Reichstein, MD, who weighed in for the health equities and disparities in medicine discussion.

The Duke Internal Medicine Residency Program hosted the first "Duke It Out" teaching competition, where three internal medicine residents delivered mini-talks during a recent noon conference. "Duke It Out" was designed as a research project by Ann Cameron Barr, MD, junior assistant resident.
