Endocrinologist Matthew Crowley and the Durham Veteran Affairs Evidence-based Synthesis Program (ESP) team spent roughly a year researching metformin’s benefits and its FDA “black box” warnings to publish a systematic literature review on whether the drug had any significant clinical trends related to their topic’s research questions.
Duke Endocrinology takes on Diabetes Dance Dare
Duke Endocrinology participated in the Diabetes Dance Dare on Fri., Dec. 2. Faculty, trainees and staff at different Duke Endocrinology locations gathered and danced for 23 seconds in recognition of the fact that every 23 seconds someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with diabetes. Internal Medicine Residents hold 5th annual Stead Tread 5K Run/Walk
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 5th annual Stead Tread 5K Run/Walk, which was held on Sat., Oct. 22, on the American Tobacco Trail. The Stead Tread is organized by the Duke Internal Medicine Residency Program. All proceeds benefit the Lincoln Community Health Center, a clinic dedicated to meeting the health care needs of medically underserved patients in Durham.

Morgan Pope joins Duke to support division development and philanthropy efforts
Morgan Pope has joined the Duke Health Development Office as an associate director of development. She will work with the Department of Medicine on development activities and philanthropy efforts for the divisions of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Nutrition, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, and Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care. Morgan will also work with Pathology and Molecular Genetics and Microbiology. Her first day was June 13.
