Duke Palliative Care announces 3 new leadership positions
David Casarett, MD, MA, chief of Palliative Care and professor of medicine, recently announced the creation of three leadership roles in Duke Palliative Care, which will position the program to take advantage of the numerous clinical, research, and education opportunities in Duke Health.
Congratulations to the Department of Medicine's Duke Health Scholars and Fellows
Fourteen faculty from the Department of Medicine were chosen as Duke Health Scholars and Duke Health Fellows. This inaugural program was created with a transfer of funds from the Duke University Health System. Its aim is to support the research efforts and enhance the academic success of early to mid-career clinician-scientists in School of Medicine clinical departments.
Duke Aging Center renews prestigious Claude D. Pepper center award
Duke Department of Medicine and School of Medicine investigators, under the leadership of Kenneth Schmader, MD, chief, Division of Geriatrics and professor of medicine, and Miriam Morey, PhD, professor of medicine (Geriatrics), successfully competed for a 5-year renewal of the highly prestigious National Institute on Aging P30, $5.4 million, Claude D.
Pope joins Duke to support division development and philanthropy efforts
Jake Pope has joined the Duke Health Development Office, and will work the Department of Medicine on development activities and philanthropy efforts for the divisions of Hematology, Geriatrics, Nephrology, and Rheumatology and Immunology. He will also support the Center for Applied Genomics and Precision Medicine.

Project connects patients with dementia to music that sparks memories
Duke medical students Kelly Ryan Murphy and Daniel Goltz and mentor Heidi White, MD, associate professor of medicine (Geriatrics), were recently recognized with a 2016 AMDA Foundation Quality Improvement and Health Outcome Award, which recognizes innovative programs that make a distinct impact on the quality of long-term care.

The School of Medicine Office for Faculty Development announced the inaugural participants in its ALICE program, a new leadership development opportunity for mid-career women faculty.
Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development marks 60th anniversary
The Duke Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development celebrated its 60th Anniversary on Sept. 25, 2015, at the Trent Semans Center. The celebration combined a Maddox keynote lecture by Stephanie Studenski, MD, PhD, with presentations of the 2015 Busse Awards.
Studenski, who is Chief of the Longitudinal Studies Section of the National Institute on Aging, spoke on “A Longitudinal Perspective on the Longitudinal Studies of Aging.”
