Susan 'Nicki' Hastings, MD, MHSc

Welcome to the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) in the Department of Medicine at Duke University. Our Division is committed to advancing patient care, education, research, and innovation that improve the health of individuals, families, and communities.

GIM’s more than 160 faculty members deliver comprehensive, person-centered care across Duke Health and lead programs in primary care, consultative internal medicine, addiction and tobacco treatment, and lifestyle and weight management. In collaboration with multiple clinical departments within Duke and the Durham VA health care system, our faculty train Duke internal medicine residents, medical and health professional students in state-of-the-art, team-based ambulatory care.

GIM serves as a hub for expertise in health care delivery science, strengthened by collaborations and partnerships at the local and national levels. Our research program is vibrant and multidisciplinary, spanning health services research, implementation science, chronic disease management, data science, and health policy. Faculty advance care delivery through major studies funded by NIH, PCORI, and other sponsors, while mentoring trainees and early career faculty to ensure the next generation of scholarship in general medicine.

We invite you to explore our programs, learn more about our faculty and their work, and join us in shaping the future of general internal medicine.

Sincerely,
S. Nicole (Nicki) Hastings, MD, MHSc
