Division members Drs. Alex Cho and Daniella Zipkin traveled to Washington DC along with five residents from the Division's Ambulatory Care Leadership Track, to lobby for the expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. The residents who traveled with Cho and Zipkin were Lauren Porras, Jeremy Halbe, Bruce Lefler and Alexandra Clark. The Affordable Care Act would offer Medicaid to low-income adults without children or diabetes.

How long have you been at Duke? How long have you been at the Division? I've been at both Duke and at the Division since 2008. I started at Durham Primary Care at the Pickett. as an attending and at the Duke outpatient clinic precepting three sessions with residents.

The Society of General Internal Medicine is conducting a short survey focusing on internists’ attitudes, knowledge and comfort with young adult patients. This week's faculty spotlight shines on James M. Davis, MD, who joined the Division earlier this year. When did you join the Division of General Internal Medicine? I just started at Duke and at the Division of Internal Medicine on April 1st of this year.

Victor J. Dzau, MD, Chancellor for Health Affairs, announced to Duke Medicine Faculty and Staff today that Marion E. Broome, PhD, FAAN, has been named the next dean of the Duke University School of Nursing and vice chancellor of nursing affairs at Duke University. In addition, Dr. Broome will assume the newly created position of associate vice president for academic affairs for nursing for Duke University Health System.

The next Schwartz Center Rounds, “Dying in Shackles: Caring for Prisoners at the End of Life,” will be held Wednesday, May 14, from noon to 1 p.m. in Duke North 2002. All are invited to attend.

Schwartz Center Rounds is a monthly interdisciplinary conference that offers clinicians an opportunity to openly and honestly discuss social and emotional issues that arise in caring for patients. Panelists this month include Jon Baumgardner, RN, Lydia Mis, PharmD, BCOP, and Benjamin Peterson, MD.
