The Society of General Internal Medicine is conducting a short survey focusing on internists’ attitudes, knowledge and comfort with young adult patients. Participants do not have to be SGIM members to complete the survey, which should take about 5 minutes to complete. Participants will have a chance to win a Starbucks gift card. Take the survey.

This week's faculty spotlight shines on James M. Davis, MD, who joined the Division earlier this year. When did you join the Division of General Internal Medicine? I just started at Duke and at the Division of Internal Medicine on April 1st of this year.

General Internist and Duke alumnus Paul G. Shekelle, MD, PhD, recently received a Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Duke Medical Alumni Association. The award recognizes Dr.

Victor J. Dzau, MD, Chancellor for Health Affairs, announced to Duke Medicine Faculty and Staff today that Marion E. Broome, PhD, FAAN, has been named the next dean of the Duke University School of Nursing and vice chancellor of nursing affairs at Duke University. In addition, Dr. Broome will assume the newly created position of associate vice president for academic affairs for nursing for Duke University Health System.

The next Schwartz Center Rounds, “Dying in Shackles: Caring for Prisoners at the End of Life,” will be held Wednesday, May 14, from noon to 1 p.m. in Duke North 2002. All are invited to attend.

Schwartz Center Rounds is a monthly interdisciplinary conference that offers clinicians an opportunity to openly and honestly discuss social and emotional issues that arise in caring for patients. Panelists this month include Jon Baumgardner, RN, Lydia Mis, PharmD, BCOP, and Benjamin Peterson, MD.

Dr. James A. Tulsky, MD, professor of medicine and chief, Duke Palliative Care, received the Research Mentoring Award for excellence in clinical science research mentoring. Congratulations, Dr. Tulsky!

Daniella A. Zipkin, MD has been promoted to Associate Professor of Medicine! Daniella is a nationally recognized leader in medical education and curriculum development. She leads major educational initiatives at Duke, including the Evidence Based Medicine Curriculum for the Internal Medicine Residency as well as the weekly Academic Half-Day program.
