How Long Older Adults Will Live Comes Down to 17 Often Surprising Factors

A new model to predict the life expectancy of older people relies less on their specific disease diagnoses and more on factors such as the ability to grocery shop, the amount of certain small cholesterol particles circulating in their blood, and whether they never or only occasionally smoked.

8 in medicine complete Duke LEADER program

Eight Department of Medicine faculty members have completed the Leadership Development for Researchers (LEADER) Program, which is designed for junior faculty who are leading a research group and driving their own research agenda.

D'Alessio and Palmer Awarded Distinguished Professorships

Three faculty members from the Department of Medicine have been awarded distinguished professorships, the highest honor the university can bestow upon a member of the faculty. The appointments are effective on July 1, 2022.

2022 Chair's Research Award Recipients Announced

The Department of Medicine is delighted to announce the winning Chair’s Research Awards proposals for 2022.

Gerald Bloomfield of Cardiology has received a sub-award through the Aga Khan University for a project entitled "Chronic, Non-Communicable Diseases and Disorders Across the Lifespan: Fogarty International Research Training Award (NCD-LIFESPAN)." Total funding will be $23,180.
