Clinic Spotlight: Pickett Road Clinic
Duke Primary Care at Pickett Road sees a wide range of patients, from young university students to elderly patients from nearby retirement communities. Pickett Road is staffed by seven attending physicians, one physician assistant and 22 residents; in addition to nurses, LPNs, medical assistants, and clinical support staff. As Medical Director, Dr. Bruce Peyser has led the clinic to Excellence in Diabetes and Hypertension, and Residency Site Director Dr.
Davis leads Duke's smoke free initiative
Duke University President, Vincent Price, recently announced the adoption of a new policy to become smoke-free on all property and grounds owned and leased by Duke University beginning July 1, 2020. As part of this effort, Duke Stores will also discontinue the sale of tobacco products by July 1 of this year.
GIM's 1st annual resident research award
As a way to recognize outstanding effort in general medicine research or quality improvement by a resident during training, the Division of General Internal Medicine held its very first Resident Research Award Luncheon on Monday, May 21.
"I really wanted to recognize residents that are engaged in areas of General Internal Medicine," says GIM Chief Ebony Boulware. "We came up with this award to help residents realize how important it is to be engaged in these efforts, and how much we really value their high-quality scholarship."
First annual Snyderman Scholars Summer Program begins
The first annual Snyderman Scholars Applied Genomics and Precision Medicine Summer Program for undergraduates is now underway. The program runs form May 21 – July 25 and gives undergraduates the opportunity to participate in a faculty-mentored research project in applied genomics and precision medicine.

Book club to discuss doctor-patient communication June 19, 2018
The Department of Medicine Book Club will host a discussion of What Patients Say, What Doctors Hear, by Danielle Ofri, MD, on Tuesday, June 19, 2018.
