Faculty Spotlight: Amy Corneli, PhD

Meet Amy Corneli, PhD, Associate Professor of Medicine. Before coming to Duke General Internal Medicine a year and a half ago, most of her research was conducted outside of the U.S., primarily sub-Saharan Africa but also in the Middle East and Asia. Her main area of expertise has been biomedical HIV Prevention. Get to know more about Dr.Corneli in our interview.

This week the main results of a large NIH-funded trial on primary care-based interventions for osteoarthritis (OA), led by multiple GIM investigators, was published in Annals of Internal Medicine.

Paul Lantos, MD, was recently interviewed about his study on influenza illness in North Carolina on Living on Earth,  the weekly environmental news and information program distributed by Public Radio International.

Williams contributes to national marijuana report

This week saw release of a comprehensive report about the health impacts of marijuana, a massive consensus study delivered by a U.S. federal advisory panel. Of the 16 committee experts on this panel, Professor John Williams, MD, of Duke General Internal Medicine participated.

Already the newest systematic review from the Durham VA Evidence Synthesis Program boasts an Altmetrics “attention score” of 140 (as of 1/8/17). Amongst several Duke authors for this publication, two represent DGIM: Dr. Clarissa Diamantidis and senior author, Dr. John Williams.

Lantos published in Clinical Infectious Diseases

Last month, Paul Lantos, MD, a Duke Medicine hospitalist and Pediatric Infectious Diseases specialist, was lead author of a fascinating study about influenza illness in North Carolina. The researchers asked whether living near the state’s hog farms affect the strains of flu that infect us. The short answer is “yes” and we should pay attention. 

Farewell Corinne Voils, PhD

Corrine Voils, PhD, has recently accepted a position with University of Wisconsin Madison (UW Madison) and will begin there in January 2017. She will have an appointment at the Madison VAMC with a joint appointment as Professor with tenure in the Division of General Surgery in the Department of Surgery.
