Sata named SHM Senior Fellow

GIM Assistant Professor of Medicine, Suchita Shah Sata, MD, SFHM, was selected for the Senior Fellows Class of 2021 by the Society for Hospital Medicine (SHM). Those who have achieved this designation have a proven track record of promoting excellence, innovation and improving the quality of patient care in hospital medicine.

Chudgar to serve as assistant dean for clinical education in School of Medicine

The Duke University School of Medicine has announced that Saumil Chudgar, MD, MS, associate professor of medicine (General Internal Medicine) has been selected as the new Assistant Dean for Clinical Education for the School of Medicine. He will be responsible for overseeing the clinical education program, while working closely with the rest of our medical education team. 

COVID-19 hospital medicine update

The Duke hospital medicine team continues to play a key role in helping treat patients with COVID-19 infection and develop hospital-based processes and policies to keep staff safe.

Wu leads pilot study: team-based approach in buprenorphine care

Physician-pharmacist collaboration may increase adherence to opioid addiction treatment according to a new study published this week in Addiction. The research team consists of 3 Duke GIM Faculty members, including first author, Dr. Li-Tzy Wu, and co-authors Drs. Lynn Bowlby and Larry Greenblatt. 

Duke Outpatient Clinic Chaplain pilot project

Over a year ago, in August 2019, Katherine Henderson began her chaplain internship at the Duke Outpatient Clinic (DOC). This was a new idea that started with the vision of DOC Medical Director, Lynn Bowlby, MD, in response to the high levels of trauma, loss and systemic injustice faced by DOC patients. "My role is to receive the story of the patient’s suffering, in their own words," says Henderson. "I work within each person’s particular worldview to contextualize their struggles and reinforce their sources of spiritual and emotional strength."
