DUH hospitalist Dr. Sonya Patel-Nguyen will be joining our own Dr.Fatima Syed as co-editor of Annals Fresh Look, a blog sponsored by the journal Annals of Internal Medicine. The published content of this blog features reflections and relevance of Annals content to our professional lives.

From Duke Hospital Medicine Dr. Tom Holland was interviewed by several TV network reporters about the COVID-19 vaccine and about hospital readmissions related to COVID-19. Besides Hospital Medicine, Dr. Holland is a specialist in Infectious Diseases.

In honor of Veterans Day 2020, this week’s medicine grand rounds (MGR) featured three speakers and their military experiences, each presentation exceptionally moving and drawing our huge respect for their contributions in service to our country.

No surprise that Duke General Internal Medicine took an adventurous path last week to videoconference the "2020 State of the Division". According to one of many online chat comments, the technology successfully connected members from “the largest division in the largest department in the largest school at Duke!”

A warm welcome to new Department of Medicine faculty members who started in October 2020!

We are proud to announce the 5th annual GIM Excellence Awards, presented Wednesday, October 28, 2020, by our Division Chief, Dr. Ebony Boulware. We are especially excited to see the growing numbers of nominations reflecting the recognition of eachother's excellence. Dr. Fatima Syed, assistant professor of medicine, takes over for Dr. Bruce Peyser as associate director of the Primary Care Leadership Track for medical students interested in primary care through longitudinal clinical experiences as well as community engagement. 

Ytina Mangum, MS, joined the Duke community in 2006 and worked as the Department of Surgery’s medical student coordinator. She recently transitioned from the Center of Applied Genomics and Precision Medicine (CAGPM) and Duke’s Center for Genomic and Computational Biology (GCB) where she held the positions since 2014 of Sr. Business Manager and most recently the Director of Administration.
