Lawrence And Mumm, MD - Palliative Care
Dr. Mumm completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Duke University Medical Center in 2016, followed by a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine, also at Duke, in 2017. He was recruited to the Duke Division of General Internal Medicine as a Medical Instructor in Palliative Care in July, 2017.

The DOC dismantles inequities starting with monthly exercises
The Duke Outpatient Clinic (DOC) developed an Equity Task Force during the summer of 2020 in an effort to dismantle racial inequity at the DOC and beyond. Their mission is to be anti-racist in patient care, clinical processes, administrative processes, and to demonstrate shared responsibility among all racial groups in addressing inequity.

There is a significant connection between housing stability and food access. Families experiencing financial hardship may have little money left for food after paying their rent or mortgage, or they may live in disinvested neighborhoods where access to healthy, affordable food is less likely. The current economic crisis caused by the pandemic has led to devastating consequences for those who were already struggling.
Sata named SHM Senior Fellow
GIM Assistant Professor of Medicine, Suchita Shah Sata, MD, SFHM, was selected for the Senior Fellows Class of 2021 by the Society for Hospital Medicine (SHM). Those who have achieved this designation have a proven track record of promoting excellence, innovation and improving the quality of patient care in hospital medicine.
COVID vaccine clinic focuses on the underserved
A Durham-based COVID-19 vaccination event on Saturday was focused on helping at-risk residents who live in underserved communities.
The location was Durham Medical Center at 4220 N Roxboro St from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both Duke Outpatient Clinic and Duke Primary Care at Durham Medical Center partnered to make this event possible. Doctors from each clinic volunteered their time to help administer the vaccine, answer questions, and monitor the post vaccine room. Staff were very involved with education and clinic flow to help the patients move through the process.

Chudgar to serve as assistant dean for clinical education in School of Medicine
The Duke University School of Medicine has announced that Saumil Chudgar, MD, MS, associate professor of medicine (General Internal Medicine) has been selected as the new Assistant Dean for Clinical Education for the School of Medicine. He will be responsible for overseeing the clinical education program, while working closely with the rest of our medical education team.
