Alzheimer’s Association Offering New Investigators Program
The Alzheimer’s Association is offering research funding for investigators who are less than 10 years past their doctoral degree. The program will allow newly independent investigators to develop preliminary or pilot data, to test procedures and to develop hypotheses. Up to $100,000 per year is available for up to two years. Letters of intent are due by September 24.
DCI Publishes Profile on Davis’ Tobacco Research
James M. Davis, MD, grew up picking tobacco crops as a child and watched his friends get addicted as the nicotine soaked through their skin (he wore gloves). Now he's using an "in-the now" approach to help people overcome their addictions. Read the Duke Cancer Institute’s story on his work here.
Prevent Cancer Foundation Offering Grants and Fellowships
Proposals for research grants and fellowships in the area of cancer prevention and early detection are currently being accepted. For this cycle, the Prevent Cancer Foundation expects to grant a total of 3 awards, including both grants and fellowships. The award amount is $40,000 per year for two years. Applications are due August 27.

Voils Accepted into SciComm Fellows Program

Payne to Head Informatics Research Seminar on August 20
Philip R. O. PCORI Announces New Funding Opportunities
The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is offering up to $76 million in support for patient-centered comparative effectiveness research proposals. Letters of Intent are due by Friday, September 5. In addition, on August 18, PCORI will issue its third call for proposals for large pragmatic clinical trials or large-scale observational studies. Up to $10 million per project will be available under this PFA.
Duke CTSA KL2 Accepting Applications
The Duke CTSA research career development award program (Duke CTSA KL2) is now accepting applications. This program will provide skilled and personalized mentoring, a tailored scientific and career development curriculum, and the chance to conduct clinical or translational research.
Three Scholars will be awarded 75% protected effort for 3 years, $20,000/year for research expenses, and $2,500/year for travel to professional meetings. Funding will start July 2015.
