JAMA Editor-In-Chief to Speak on October 27

BauchnerHoward Bauchner, MD, editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American Medical Association, will deliver the lecture, “Guidelines, Cardiovascular Health and the Public,” on Monday, October 27 at 11:45 a.m. in the Great Hall of the Trent Semans Center. All faculty and staff are invited to attend.

AHA Offering $150,000 Mentored Clinical And Population Research Awards

AHA logoThe American Heart Association’s National Mentored Clinical and Population Research Award will offer up to $150,000 over two years for research related to cardiovascular disease and stroke prevention or treatment, or to related clinical and public health problems, including multidisciplinary efforts. Applications are due by January 1, 2015.

NIH Funding Research in Acute Kidney Injury in Older Adults

NIH logoThe National Institutes of Health invite grant applications proposing basic, clinical, translational or outcomes research on acute kidney injury (AKI) in older adults. Applications may focus on the epidemiology, etiology and risk factors of AKI; pathophysiology of AKI and its impact on disease; early detection, diagnosis and monitoring; or prevention, treatment and management strategies.

Gierisch Awarded IIR Grant for Smoking Cessation RCT

GierischJennifer Gierisch, PhD, was just awarded a VA HSR&D investigator-initiated research (IIR) grant, "Adjunctive Mood Management for Telephone-Based Smoking Cessation in Primary Care." This four-year randomized controlled trial will assess the combined potency of co-delivered behavioral mood management and the reach of proactive telephone-delivered interventions. Congratulations, Dr. Gierisch!
