Dr. Jennifer Gierisch was accepted into the 14th annual OBSSR/NHLBI Summer Institute on Randomized Behavioral Clinical Trials. Gierisch’s application was one of only 30 accepted out of more than 160 spaces. Congratulations, Dr, Gierisch!

Saumil Chudgar, MD recently received a 2013 Practice Course Professionalism Award from Duke University School of Medicine. Saumil was selected by second-year medical students in the Practice Course. The award recognizes exceptional professional behavior in a clinical setting. The Practice Course teaches professionalism, and the goal of the course is to develop physicians who will treat patients with respect. Congratulations, Saumil!

Matthew Maciejeswski, PhD received an R01 grant from AHRQ, entitled: "Fragmentation in Medication Management in Medicare." This 18 month study will characterize the prevalence, risks and benefits of continuity of medication management on health care and health outcomes among Medicare beneficiaries with multiple co morbid chronic diseases.  Congratulations, Matt!

Kelli Dominick Allen, PhD was promoted to Full Professor! Kelli has spent much of her distinguished career advancing the health of patients with osteoarthritis through her conduct of rigorous studies employing methods in health services, clinical and comparative effectiveness, and patient centered outcomes research. He work has focused on improving care for osteoarthritis, with a focus on self-management, physical activity, and physical therapy related care.

Two DoM-led research teams are working to identify and rank important gaps in knowledge for treatment regimens of two diverse conditions: bipolar disorder among adolescents and early breast tumors in women. For both conditions, diagnosis is often not clear-cut, while typical treatments come with a trade-off of benefits and serious side effects.
