Faculty Spotlight: Anne Phelps, MD

Clinical Science Day is November 8

This year’s Clinical Science Day will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 8. This CME-accredited program brings together faculty staff trainees and students to celebrate clinical science research and encourage collaboration. This Clinical Science day will feature five School of Medicine faculty speakers, including Division Chief Ebony Boulware, MD.

Mandel Center Offering Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships

The Mandel Center for Hypertension and Atherosclerosis at Duke is requesting proposals to support a research fellow to research the causes and treatment of hypertension, atherosclerosis and related cardiovascular diseases. The Center will award one 1-year $45,000 fellowship grant; applications are due by December 1. Each applicant must have an identified Mentor who is a member of the Duke Cardiovascular Research Center at the time the application is reviewed.

Holland Authors JAMA Article

Holland, MD, was the lead author of an article published in the latest issue of JAMA. “Clinical management of Staphlococcus aureus bacteremia” reviewed the medical literature to determine the optimal treatments for S. aureus bacteremia. Tulsky Receives $1.7 Million PCORI Grant

210_TulskyJames2011Congratulations are once again in order for Dr. Tulsky, who was just awarded a $1.7 million, three-year grant from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). This grant will build upon an existing computer program called SCOPE that allows oncologists to record conversations with patients and receive feedback on how well they did.

Lloyd Charitable Trust Offering Melanoma Research Grants

The Harry J. Lloyd Charitable Trust is accepting application for melanoma research projects in melanoma research in three categories  Career, Basic Science, and Translational Research. Awards tend to be in the range of $100K - $125K per year; applications are due by December 10. Read more. 

AAFP Offering Joint Grant Awards Program

AAFP logoThe American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) is offering its Joint Grant Awards Program to support family medicine research. The program goals are to support research of value to practicing family physicians, encourage proposals by junior investigators, and fund pilot studies. The AAFP will award up to $50,000 for each project; applications are due by December 1.

NIH Funding Tech Improvements to Data Collection in NIDDK Clinical Studies

NIH logoThe NIH have issued a funding opportunity announcement to support research or develop devices, software, or technology that will optimize data collection for NIDDK clinical studies. Total funding support normally may not exceed $150,000 for Phase I awards and $1,000,000 for Phase II awards. Applications are due by December 5. Read more.  

Flu Vaccinations Now Available

Annual vaccination is required for all Division faculty or staff who do clinical work and is strongly encouraged for other Division faculty and staff. Times and locations for obtaining the vaccination are available online at http://www.duke.edu/flu/shots/
