For most in health care this would be a major stress – an outbreak of COVID-19 at a homeless shelter. This is the story of just such an event in Durham, NC, an outbreak that called for a major multidisciplinary response.

Recently clinicians in Duke Primary Care (DPC) were given opportunity to attend faculty development sessions designed specifically to strengthen clinician-educator skill sets for learners in the primary care office or urgent care setting. These were directed by Dr. Bruce Peyser, professor of medicine in the division of general internal medicine.

Dr. Holland interviewed by TV reporters about COVID-19

From Duke Hospital Medicine Dr. Tom Holland was interviewed by several TV network reporters about the COVID-19 vaccine and about hospital readmissions related to COVID-19. Besides Hospital Medicine, Dr. Holland is a specialist in Infectious Diseases.

Getting Promoted as a Clinician-Educator

Last week the topic of “MedEd Faculty Development” headlined the Medicine Conference Series for Hospital Medicine at Duke Regional Hospital. 

Attendees were treated to a summary of the academic promotion process for clinician-educators, its route in general and more specifically at Duke. 

ACLT Kickoff

The Advocacy in Clinical Leadership Track (ACLT), led by Daniella Zipkin, MD, had its kickoff for the year with its first two sessions.

Videoconferencing this year - it worked!

No surprise that Duke General Internal Medicine took an adventurous path last week to videoconference the "2020 State of the Division". According to one of many online chat comments, the technology successfully connected members from “the largest division in the largest department in the largest school at Duke!”
