Duke AHEAD Calling for Poster Abstracts
The Duke Academy for Health Professions Education and Academic Development (Duke AHEAD) is calling for poster abstracts for its first Education Celebration. This celebration, which will be held November 13-14, will spotlight health-professions educators as well as their innovations and achievements.
Abstracts are due Monday, August 11 and should advance innovation in education excellence.

Those are two different questions for me. I first came to Duke as an undergraduate more years ago than I like to admit. I then left for medical school and residency training.
NIDCD Funding Research on Human Communication Disorders
The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) has issued a funding opportunity announcement for R01 and R21 grants to support effectiveness, outcomes and health services research in hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, speech and language. Up to $500,000 per year for a maximum of five years is available. Applications are due by October 2014. Read the full announcement.
$50,000 SAMHSA Conference Grants Available
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is has issued a request for applications for SAMHSA Knowledge Dissemination Conference Grants. These grants will offer $50,000 for projects that disseminate knowledge about practices within the mental health services and substance abuse prevention and treatment fields and integrate that knowledge into real-world practice.
NIH Funding Pilot Health Services and Economic Research on Treatment of Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Abuse
The NIH has issued a funding opportunity announcement (FOA) to encourage pilot and primary research on service delivery models, and organizational or systems-level interventions on the treatment of drug, alcohol, and tobacco abuse. Up to $450,000 over three years is available. Applications are due by October 16.
Setoguchi-Iwata awarded PCORI grant for $1.05 million
Soko Setoguchi-Iwata, MD, MPH, associate professor of medicine (General Internal Medicine), has been awarded funding totaling around $1.05 million from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) for a methods research project, Improving Methods for Linking Secondary Data Sources for CER/PCOR.
