Earth Day is a time to raise awareness of the need to protect Earth's natural resources for future generations. It’s also time to have cross-discipline conversations about plastic pollution’s impact on human health, says two School of Medicine researchers with Duke University’s Plastic Pollution Working Group (PPWG). 

Manesh Patel, MD, will receive the American Heart Association’s (AHA) 2023 Physician of the Year Award, which honors a physician with a longstanding commitment to the highest ideals of patient care and exemplary leadership in the AHA mission.

The Duke Liver Transplant Program this spring marks 2,000 transplants with patient outcomes that are among the best in the nation for key metrics such as shorter transplant wait times and one-year survival.

Professors Heather Whitson, MD, MHS, director of the Duke Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development, and Dave D’Alessio, MD, chief of the division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Nutrition, have been selected as co-recipients of the 2023 Neil L. Spector Art of Medicine Award.

Andrew Muir, MD, MHS, will serve as the next Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for the Department of Medicine, beginning April 1.  He will continue in his role as the Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology. 

After a decade of debate, North Carolina is poised to expand the state’s Medicaid program.  A cohort of Duke internal medicine residents has been advocating for the expansion for years, playing a small but powerful—perhaps even pivotal—role in moving expansion legislation forward.

Dana Clifton, MD, and Christopher Prater, MD, MPH, will assume the positions of Associate Program Directors of the combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program, effective July 2023.

Women's History Month is a time for learning about the past and looking to the future.
