Endobariatrics Program

The Duke GI Endobariatrics Program offers minimally invasive, incisionless, nonsurgical options for weight loss including endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG). In addition, we offer endoscopic revision procedures for those who have had weight regain after prior gastric bypass.  We provide a comprehensive and multidisciplinary evaluation with gastroenterology, medical weight loss providers, bariatric surgery, nutrition and psychology to ensure optimal outcomes for weight management. Our program spans both Durham and Raleigh campuses.

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is a minimally invasive, endoscopic approach to weight loss. The procedure involves endoscopically placed suturing of the stomach wall to reduce the volume of the stomach by 70%. This allows a patient to feel full sooner, thereby promoting weight loss.

Transoral outlet reduction (TORe) is a minimally invasive option for patients who have had weight regain after gastric bypass surgery. The use of endoscopically placed sutures creates a reduction in the outlet between the gastric pouch and small intestine to restore gastric volume restriction and creating the sensation of fullness.  Endoscopic suturing can also be offered for patients who have had weight regain after surgical laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.
