The March 1st issue of Annals of Internal Medicine includes an editorial by John W. Williams Jr., MD, MHSc, a Duke GIM clinician-researcher and educator, together with Gary Maslow, MD, MPH, also a Duke faculty member (Pediatrics and Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences). The commentary is titled “Seize the Day to Implement Depression Guidelines.”
Study: Mapping family history can lead more at-risk patients to timely screening
A Duke study led by Lori Orlando, MD, looks at how more deliberate efforts to map a patient’s family tree could identify additional risks and drive patients to more timely screenings.
Welcome new GIM faculty
This month the Division of General Internal Medicine is pleased to announce additions of three new faculty members.Two are biostatisticians and one joins the ambulatory medicine service at the Durham VA Medical Center.
Brad Hammill, DrPH, MS
Dr. Hammill, a longtime collaborator with our researchers, joins our DCRI faculty as a Senior Biostatistician. His primary focus in research covers areas of health policy, health services research, outcomes, and pharmacoepidemiology.
Faculty Spotlight: Virginia Wang, PhD
Last October 2015 we wrote about Dr. Virginia Wang’s new appointment to the editorial board of Health Care Management Review. We thought our readers would be interested to read more about her career as a health services researcher as well as her work-life experiences. Faculty Spotlight: Christopher Hostler, MD, MPH
Maybe you’ve seen this face around Duke. You may recognize him as the guy who likes to rep the USA in his flag suit at the Durham VA every once in a while (see photos below for proof), but we know him as Christopher Hostler, MD, MPH, husband, father of two, huge fan of Army football, and one of our Internal Medicine Chief Residents. Voils Receives Research Career Scientist Award
This week the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced new recipients of the prestigious Research Career Scientist Award. We are proud to celebrate the newest awardee in Duke General Internal Medicine, Dr. Corinne Voils. Professor Voils has been a faculty member in DGIM since 2004. Among her many responsibilities she is the co-director of the HSR&D/GIM fellowship.

GIM Welcomes 3 New Faculty Members
We at Duke General Internal Medicine are pleased to announce three hospitalists as newly appointed Medical Instructors. Last July each completed residency at Duke then stepped into hospitalist roles – Drs. Lozano and Lefler in the Durham VAMC and Dr. Reddy in Duke University Hospital. We are glad to have each of these clinician-educators as members of our faculty. Welcome!
