The Division of General Internal Medicine is pleased to announce additions of two new faculty members:
Peter Lee, MD (pictured left)
In May 2016 Dr. Peter Lee transitioned to Duke Hospital Medicine from the WakeMed Hospitalist program in Raleigh. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, he completed both medical school and residency training at UNC Chapel Hill.

Duke Integrative Medicine named best holistic medicine practice of 2016
Indy Week, a local newspaper known for their progressive news, culture & commentary for Raleigh, Cary, Durham & Chapel Hill areas, just completed their “Best of the Traingle Awards” for 2016 and we are happy to announce Duke Integrative Medicine was amongst the award recipients and was named “Best Holistic Medicine Practice”.

Rubin receives ambulatory teaching award
Dr. Sharon Rubin, assistant professor of medicine in Duke GIM, received the 2016 Ambulatory Teaching Award at Duke Medicine Grand Rounds on June 10. The Internal Medicine House Staff presents this award to a faculty member who best exemplifies commitment and excellence to teaching in ambulatory medicine.
GIM Faculty Spotlight: Carol Hammond, PhD
Did you know Dr. Carol Hammond is a “speech language pathologist”? This background, plus a fascination with human anatomy and physiology, led to her career research work on “post-stroke oral pharyngeal dysphagia.”

As the highlight of the academic year for many of us, SGIM’s annual meeting took place May 11-14 in the beautiful Hollywood, Florida. I attended and presented at the SGIM annual meeting this year and it was great as always. Here are my 5 reasons I’m glad I attended the meeting:

Meet Nilesh Patel, MD, MS, a DUH hospitalist since finishing his residency in 2013 and chief residency just last year. Get to know Dr. Patel through our interview below.
How long have you been at Duke?
I am starting in my sixth year at Duke. I did both my residency and Chief Residency here at Duke, and liked it so much that I’ve stuck around since then (or rather, GIM and hospital medicine let me stay).
