NIDCD Funding Research on Human Communication Disorders

The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) has issued a funding opportunity announcement for R01 and R21 grants to support effectiveness, outcomes and health services research in hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, speech and language. Up to $500,000 per year for a maximum of five years is available. Applications are due by October 2014. Read the full announcement.

$50,000 SAMHSA Conference Grants Available

SAMHSA logoThe Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is has issued a request for applications for SAMHSA Knowledge Dissemination Conference Grants. These grants will offer $50,000 for projects that disseminate knowledge about practices within the mental health services and substance abuse prevention and treatment fields and integrate that knowledge into real-world practice.

NIH Funding Research Preventing, Treating Obesity and Overweight

NIH logoThe National Institutes of Health are calling for research grant applications for studies exploring interventions for the treatment or prevention of obesity or overweight adults or children. Direct costs are limited to $275,000 over a two-year period. Applications are due by October 16.

Registration Open for Academic Hospitalist Academy

AHA logoRegistration is open for the sixth annual Academic Hospitalist Academy (AHA), which will be held October 20-23 in Englewood, Colorado. Each year the AHA, sponsored by the Society of Hospital Medicine, provides academic hospitalists with educational, scholarly and professional development skills to advance their careers and begin a pathway to success in academic hospital medicine. HIV Training Opportunities for Primary Care Providers

The federally funded NC AIDS Training and Education Center (NC ATEC) is offering two free educational initiatives on HIV prevention and management:
  • Preparing for PrEP, which provides one-on-one support on the use of a single, CDC-recommended tablet to prevent HIV infection for high-risk individuals
  • Tele-Education to Support HIV Management, which provides tailored, flexible support via video-conferencing for primary care providers managing patients with HIV.
