The NIH and NCI have issued a funding opportunity announcement (FOA) for Outstanding Investigator Awards (OIA). This award, available in any area of cancer research, provides long-term support to experienced investigators who propose to conduct exceptional research.

Nominations are open for election into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honor medical society.

The PhRMA Foundation is offering millions of dollars in grants and fellowships to support innovative research in disciplines essential to the development of safe and effective medicines.

Stephen Russell, DVM, PhD, will present a seminar on writing winning grant proposals on Thursday, July 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Duke South Medical Student Amphitheater. This seminar will address practical and conceptual aspects important to the proposal-writing process. It will also focus on NIH funding as well as idea development, identification of the most appropriate granting agency, how to write for reviewers, and tips and strategies that are of proven value in presenting an applicant's case to reviewers.

The Clinical Research Training Program is offering a new course on implementation and dissemination of health care research this fall. CRP 273: Implementation and Dissemination of Health Care Research will provide an overview of methods for undertaking research and program evaluation within health services organizations and systems. Welcome to our first Staff Spotlight. In this recurring series, we’ll take a look at the Division staff who work with our faculty to make sure the Division of General Internal Medicine stays up and running. This week, we talk to Division Administrator Lisa Wright. How long have you been at Duke? How long have you been at the Division? I started at Duke in December, 1985.

The School of Medicine has announced the next cycle of the School of Medicine Bridge Funding program. This program funds investigators who have had a lapse in R01- or P01-level support. Eligible investigators may receive up to $100,000 per lapsed R01 grant or up to $200,000 per lapsed P01-grant. The next application deadline is Friday, August 15. Ranee Chatterjee, MD, MPH, assistant professor of medicine (General Internal Medicine), is among three Duke researchers selected to receive resources through the Duke Translational Medicine Institute's KL2 Scholar Program.

AcademyHealth has expanded its professional development program to include seven grants of $10,000 each for its members. These grants will support the early careers of new health services researchers by funding innovative, timely, and relevant research and translation activities.
