Tulsky receives Pathfinder in Palliative Care Award

JAMA Editor-In-Chief to Speak on October 27

Howard Bauchner, MD, editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American Medical Association, will deliver the lecture, “Guidelines, Cardiovascular Health and the Public,” on Monday, October 27 at 11:45 a.m. in the Great Hall of the Trent Semans Center. All faculty and staff are invited to attend.

NIH Offering Palliative Care Grants

The National Institutes of Health have offered a funding opportunity announcement for grant applications focusing on palliative care in geriatric populations. Relevant settings include ambulatory care, hospitals assisted living facilities, and short- and long-term care facilities. For more information, read the full funding announcement.

PhRMA Foundation Offering 2015 Grants and Fellowships

The PhRMA Foundation is offering 2015 grants and fellowships in clinical pharmacology, health outcomes, and translational medicine and therapeutics. Available awards include the $120,000 Faculty Development Award in Clinical Pharmacology, research starter grants in health outcomes and translational medicine and therapeutics, and doctoral fellowship awards. Applications are due by February 1, 2015.

Clinical Science Day is November 8

This year’s Clinical Science Day will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 8. This CME-accredited program brings together faculty staff trainees and students to celebrate clinical science research and encourage collaboration. This Clinical Science day will feature five School of Medicine faculty speakers, including Division Chief Ebony Boulware, MD.

Lloyd Charitable Trust Offering Melanoma Research Grants

The Harry J. Lloyd Charitable Trust is accepting application for melanoma research projects in melanoma research in three categories  Career, Basic Science, and Translational Research. Awards tend to be in the range of $100K - $125K per year; applications are due by December 10. Read more. 

Flu Vaccinations Now Available

Flu vaccines are now available free of charge to all School of Medicine faculty and staff. Annual vaccination is required for all Division faculty or staff who do clinical work and is strongly encouraged for other Division faculty and staff. Times and locations for obtaining the vaccination are available online at http://www.duke.edu/flu/shots/  

Tulsky awarded PCORI grant for $1.7 million

James Tulsky, MD, professor of medicine (General Internal Medicine) and chief of Duke Palliative Care, has been awarded $1.7 million from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) for a communication and dissemination research project.

IM Residency Program Needs Your Help
