Division Staff and Faculty Recognized for Service

Duke University recently recognized six Division faculty and staff members for their continued service at Duke: Julie Miller (5 years), Iris Pounds (10 years), Corrine Voils (10 years), William Yancy (15 years), David Edelman (20 years), Lawrence Greenblatt (20 years), and Doug McCrory (25 years). Congratulations to them all!

What We're Reading: Cutting for Stone

Dr. Martha Adams recommends Cutting for Stone, the first novel by author and physician Abraham Verghese. Adams says, “It's a terrifically moving ‘story of love and betrayal, medicine and ordinary miracles.’  I found the many life decisions in the storyline especially intriguing.

Faculty Spotlight: Ranee Chatterjee, MD, MPH

This week's faculty spotlight shines on Dr. Ranee Chatterjee, Assistant Professor of Medicine. We talk to Chatterjee about her clinical work, research interests, and diabetes prevention. RFA: Comparative Health System Performance in Accelerating PCOR Dissemination (U19)

The AHRQ invites applications for Centers of Excellence to identify, classify, track, and compare healthcare delivery systems ranging from integrated delivery systems to Accountable Care Organizations to help improve CER-recommended practices. This program will to identify, characterize, and classify types of delivery systems and to compare the performance (quality and resource use) of health care delivery systems responsible for a broad spectrum of the patients’ care. ASN Offering Bennett Clinical Scholars Program

The American Society of Nephrology is accepting applications for the William and Sandra Bennett Clinical Scholars program. This program will support nephrology educators with $50,000 a year for up to two years to conduct a project to advance facets of nephrology education and teaching. Applications are due by Monday, July 7.

Bowlby Wins 2014 Ambulatory Teaching Award

Dr. Lynn Bowlby just won the 2014 Ambulatory Medicine Teaching Award. The Internal Medicine House Staff presents this award to the faculty member who best exemplifies commitment and excellence to teaching in ambulatory medicine. Congratulations, Dr. Bowlby!

Travel Funding Available for Duke-NUS Visit

The Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore (Duke-NUS) invites interested Duke medical faculty to visit and speak at the school. This program will promote collaborative research projects between Duke and Duke-NUS faculty. Visiting Duke faculty will present a research seminar at Duke-NUS during their visit. Applications are due by July 15.

AJPH Publishing Supplemental Issue on Health Disparities

The American Journal of Public Health (AJPH),  with the National Institutes of Health and FDA Office on Minority Health, intends to publish a supplement issue on the science of eliminating health disparities. Original epidemiological, genetic, behavioral, social, and policy-oriented research articles, commentaries, perspectives, and critical reviews of major problem areas related to health disparities in the United States are invited. Papers are due by July 1.
