Joanna Cavalier, MD
Dr. Cavalier has been with Duke since she began her internal medicine residency in 2019. She now joins our division as a Medical Instructor and is a hospitalist at Duke University Hospital.
Duke Interprofessional Education (IPE) Clinic Seeking Clinic Preceptors
The School of Medicine is seeking clinical faculty to serve as Interprofessional Education Clinic Preceptors for the upcoming academic year. Along with other interprofessional faculty, clinic preceptors will be responsible for seeing patients with ambulatory care complaints, such as might be seen in an outpatient clinic or in urgent care.
4 in GIM honored with end of year awards
Another academic year is coming to end, which means it's time to recognize individuals who have exemplified excellence in teaching and mentorship during the year. At Duke Medicine Learning, Education, and Discussion Series (LEADS) on June 20, the Duke chief residents presented the end-of-the-year awards. Among the recipients were 4 GIM faculty members.

Duke Palliative Care celebrates 25 years
The 25-year celebration for Duke Palliative Care took place on May 19 and brought out hundreds of people to the Karsh Alumni and Visitors Center to celebrate the achievements and partnerships of Duke Palliative Care, bid farewell to the retiring Dr. Tony Galanos, and share a vision for the future of the Duke Center for Palliative Care.
In the words of Dr. Galanos, founder of the service in 1998, “We have gone from making the case to being the case”.

Led by Drs. Daniella Zipkin and Caroline Sloan, residents in the Advocacy in Clinical Leadership Track (ACLT) traveled to Raleigh on May 24 for an advocacy day at the N.C. General Assembly to discuss the need for behavioral health initiatives in the state budget.
Yancy Named Interim Division Chief of General Internal Medicine
William Yancy, MD, has agreed to serve as interim chief of the division of General Internal Medicine (GIM), effective January 1, 2023. Dr. Yancy is a professor of Medicine in the GIM division and has been a member of the Department of Medicine at Duke for 23 years.
After medical school at East Carolina University, Dr. Yancy completed his residency and chief residency at the University of Pittsburgh. He came to Duke as a GIM fellow and we were delighted to recruit him to our faculty after he completed his training.
