Dzau named next president of the Institute of Medicine

Victor J. Dzau, MD, chancellor for health affairs at Duke University and president and chief executive officer for the Duke University Health System, has been named president of the Institute of Medicine (IOM). Dzau will be leaving Duke on June 30, 2014, and will succeed current IOM president Harvey V.

Ginsburg organizes meeting of international genomics leaders

Geoffrey Ginsburg, MD, PhD, professor of medicine (Cardiology) and pathology and director of genomic medicine at the Duke Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy, was co-organizer of the Global Leaders in Genomic Medicine meeting at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. in January. At the meeting, 50 leaders in genomic medicine from more than 25 countries discussed recommendations for improving the use of genomics in medicine.

2/22/14: Duke ACC Aortic Stenosis Valve Symposium

Join J. Kevin Harrison, MD, professor of medicine (Cardiology), G. Chad Hughes, MD, associate professor of surgery and director of the aortic surgery program, and John Vavalle, MD, MHS, on Sat., Feb. 22 for a complimentary full-day symposium focusing on aortic stenosis and transcatheter therapies (TAVR). The symposium will be held from 7 a.m.-4 p.m.

Lefkowitz Nobel Medal on display

If you haven't seen a Nobel Prize in person, here is your chance: Robert Lefkowitz's 2012 Nobel Prize for Chemistry is on display on the ground floor of the Trent Semans Center. The display includes an interactive module describing Lefkowitz's career and research.

Three from DoM on list of world's top biomedical scientists

Five Duke University faculty - three from the Department of Medicine - appear on a list of the world's top biomedical scientists. A recent paper in the European Journal of Clinical Investigation identified 400 of the world’s most influential researchers in biomedicine—and five hail from Duke University.
