Research Conference 9/27/13: Cardiomyopathies

The Medicine Research Conference returns Fri., Sept. 27 at 12 p.m. in Duke Hospital 2002 with a presentation by Matthew Wolf, MD, PhD, assistant professor of medicine (Cardiology). Dr. Wolf will present Cardiomyopathies: Flies to Humans. Lunch will be provided.

Richard Becker accepts new role at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine

Dr. Richard Becker, director of the Cardiovascular Thrombosis Center and professor of Medicine, has accepted a new position at his alma mater, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Becker will serve as the Mable Stonehill Endowed Chair for the Division of Cardiovascular Health and Disease; director of the Heart, Lung, and Vascular Institute; director of the Cardiovascular Center of Excellence in Research; and chief of Cardiovascular Services at West Chester Hospital.

Duke Cardiology in Kenya

Duke Cardiology, through a Center of Excellence Grant from the NIH and philanthropic funding, has teamed up with AMPATH and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital to develop a Clinical Research Training program and build a Cardiac Care Unit. This initiative is providing expanded care to the hospital's catchment area of around 20 million while training the next generation of clinical researchers and leaders in Kenya's health care system.

Ginsburg receives NHGRI Genomic Medicine Pilot Demonstration Project grant

Geoffrey Ginsburg, MD, PhD, professor of medicine (Cardiology) and pathology and director of genomic medicine at the Duke Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy, is one of four investigators to receive a grant from the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI)'s Genomic Medicine Pilot Demonstration Projects program.
