Dzau to present regeneration research at Cardiology Grand Rounds 6/3/2014

Victor Dzau, MD, chancellor for health affairs at Duke University and president and CEO for Duke University Health System and James B. Duke Professor of Medicine (Cardiology), will present his research to Cardiology Grand Rounds Tues., June 3 at 5pm in DN 2002.

The title of his talk is “Molecular Approach to Cardiac Regeneration.” A reception will follow.

Dr. Dzau will leave Duke in July to serve as the next president of the Institute of Medicine.

Two presentations by the Inaugural Joseph Kisslo, MD, Visiting Professor

Next week, the Duke Cardiac Diagnostic Unit will present the Inaugural Joseph Kisslo, MD, Visiting Professorship in Cardiovascular Imaging at Duke University, honoring leadership in cardiovascular research, mentoring and patient care. The 2014 Visiting Professor is A. Jamil Tajik, MD. Dr. Tajik will present "Barlow Syndrome: Comprehensive Assessment: Golden Moment for Intervention" at Cardiology Grand Rounds at 5 p.m. on Tues., May 13 in Duke North Room 2002.

Ohman receives career achievement award for interventional cardiology

UnknownE. Magnus Ohman, MD, professor of medicine (Cardiology), was recently honored with a Career Achievement Award by the Interventional Cardiology Society of Mexico. Dr. Ohman was recognized for his research in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) with left ventricular support devices such as IABP, or Impella, and for his work with high-risk PCI patients.  

Frontiers in Photonics: Science and Technology - March 11 and 12

The Duke University Fitzpatrick Institute for Photonics will hold its 2014 symposium, Frontiers in Photonics: Science and Technology, March 11 and 12. The theme of the symposium is "Visualization Across The Spectrum from Engineering to Humanities and Medicine." Geoffrey Ginsburg, MD, PhD, professor of medicine (Cardiology) and pathology and director of genomic medicine at the Duke Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy, will be one of the presenters. Dzau named next president of the Institute of Medicine

Dzau, MD, chancellor for health affairs at Duke University and president and chief executive officer for the Duke University Health System, has been named president of the Institute of Medicine (IOM). Dzau will be leaving Duke on June 30, 2014, and will succeed current IOM president Harvey V.

Ginsburg organizes meeting of international genomics leaders

Geoffrey Ginsburg, MD, PhD, professor of medicine (Cardiology) and pathology and director of genomic medicine at the Duke Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy, was co-organizer of the Global Leaders in Genomic Medicine meeting at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. in January. At the meeting, 50 leaders in genomic medicine from more than 25 countries discussed recommendations for improving the use of genomics in medicine.
