Meet your chief resident: Adam Banks, MD

Adam Banks, MD, is the chief resident for internal medicine at the Durham VA Medical Center. Dr. Banks helps run the general medicine service at the VA, plans Medicine Grand Rounds and, teaches residents, which he says is his favorite part of the job.

Banks earned his undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University and attended the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He will resume his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the end of year. Keep reading to learn more about his teaching philosophy, his love for residency and how he ended up at Duke.

Joseph Rogers to be interim chair of the Department of Medicine

Mary Klotman, MD, chair of the Department of Medicine, announced today that Joseph Rogers, MD, professor of medicine in the Division of Cardiology, has agreed to serve as interim chair of the Department of Medicine upon Dr. Klotman's becoming dean of the School of Medicine, effective July 1, 2017.

Overcoming barriers: Kevin Thomas on building diversity in medicine

Kevin Thomas, MD, associate professor of medicine (Cardiology), holds a long track record in his career that focuses on health disparities and career development. Most of his research career has been dedicated to understanding disparities in science and medicine.

Throughout the years, Dr. Thomas overcame barriers that placed him on the path he is on today.

Before he was “Kevin Thomas the cardiologist,” he was just a boy with a love for basketball growing up in the city of Fort Washington, Md.

Mary Klotman – New Dean Duke School of Medicine

Dr. Mary Klotman was named the Dean of the Duke School of Medicine. The announcement found here captures Dr. Klotman’s academic and collaborative nature. She is “a nationally renowned physician-scientist and academic leader who has served as chair of Duke’s Department of Medicine for almost seven years -- has been named dean of the Duke University School of Medicine and vice chancellor for health affairs at Duke University. Klotman will assume these roles July 1, 2017.
