Cardiology recognizes staff, fellows and faculty at end of year celebration
The Division of Cardiology recently celebrated the end of the academic year with 21 graduating fellows. In the division's weekly newsletter, Joe Rogers, MD, interim division chief, reported this class published 321 manuscripts and presented 237 abstracts at nearly every major cardiovascular meeting in the world.

Poss receives AHA award to study how heart cells regenerate
Kenneth Poss, PhD, James B. Duke Professor of Cell Biology, medicine and biology and affiliated faculty in the Duke Cardiovascular Research Center, has received a $1 million merit award from the American Heart Association.
Funding opp: Gilead Sciences Research Scholars Program in Cardiovascular Disease
The Gilead Sciences Research Scholars Program in Cardiovascular Disease supports innovative scientific research that will advance knowledge in the field of cardiovascular disease.
The program is accepting applications for three awards that provide financial support to junior faculty researchers for a 2-year period. Each award is funded up to $130,000, to be paid in annual installments of up to $65,000 per year for 2 years.
The deadline for online application submission is Fri., July 8, 2016, Midnight, Eastern Daylight Time.
Ginsburg takes seat on the NIH advisory committee
This week, Geoff Ginsburg, MD, PhD, professor of medicine (Cardiology), who has had leadership roles at Duke and national organization such as the Institute of Medicine and NIH, will take a seat on the NIH committee that makes recommendations concerning program development, resource allocation, NIH administrative regulation and policy, and other specific or general aspects of NIH policy.
